| Bach and Buxtehude
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) needs no introduction as a great composer and organist and his motets; “Jesu, Meine Freude” (Jesu, my Joy) and “Singet Dem Herrn” (O Sing to the Lord) are two much-loved choral works.
Dietrich Buxtehude (c1637-1707) may be a less well-known name but his music was a major influence on many composers of his era, some of whom travelled far to hear it. These included Handel, Telemann and the young J S Bach who, it is told, walked 200 miles to Lubeck in Germany to learn from the Maestro Buxtehude.
